Loving Yourself, Unapologetically.

Learning to Love Yourself

"Learning to love myself again was one of the hardest and most rewarding things I've ever done.  Personally, it's something I have to consciously work on every day"

- Carmelia

Now, if you click on this post and think "Of course I love myself, I'm perfect just the way I am" then congratulations to you.  Truly, that's great - I hope you use any extra in your cup to pour into others.  For those that click on this post, and have already put together a list in your head of all the things you'd change about yourself, this is for you.

I'm going to get right to the point - my intentions are not to hurt feelings, but to open your eyes to the stupidity of your actions and/or the things you're choosing to view online.  YOUR WORTH DOES NOT COME FROM THE AMOUNT OF VIEWS OR LIKES THAT YOU HAVE!!!!  When you die (and we all will) nobody will care about how many followers you had.  Are spending hours putting together "content" that doesn't benefit the world, and when you turn the camera off feel empty.  THIS IS NOT HEALTHY.

You matter because you exist.  You do not need someone you don't even know replaying your videos to provide you with worth, you are worthy because you exist.

Where to start?

  • Tell yourself 3 things you like about yourself.
  • Try to make these unrelated to your appearance. If you choose something about your appearance, choose something natural.
  • Try to find something that isn't measured externally. Example: "Other people think I'm kind." instead try "I am kind."
  • Try not to focus on material things. Example: "I like my cool and expensive car." instead try "I work really hard, and have achieved things I desire because of that."
  • Create a list of 3 things you're grateful for. (My examples from today are below)
  • I am grateful to have a working body, and that I could do yoga today.
  • I am grateful for shelter, and to be protected from the rain.
  • I'm grateful for the trees outside my apartment window, that remind me how resilient we as creations are.
  • Consider 3 ways you could be nicer to yourself, or how you could redirect a negative narrative.
  • This is a good time to reflect on how much value you put in the opinion of others verses what you're actually experiencing.
  • You could observe if you've been comparing yourself to others, personally or professionally.
  • You could reflect on how much time you spend judging others, knowing that is not healthy use of time.

In a world full of so much external "noise", it's easy to be misled, misinformed, and pressed into a "one-size-fits-all mold." What isn't easy, is navigating your own path, and fighting for it- unapologetically!
