We've created a culture that is full of "noise". That noise reaches you whether you intend for it to or not. I encourage you to start paying attention to what you're paying attention to, or how you're choosing to use your time. The path of least resistance is leading many people to a dark and unproductive place.
We are meant to live this life and to experience JOY while we do! Instead, many people are going through the motions, just trying to get by. As a culture we're addicted to technology. When you're constantly staring at a device, you're missing out on opportunities for fulfillment all around you. Potentially, overlooking others who need you present.
If we are being reasonable, we can admit that what we're doing as a society isn't benefiting most people. We must have courage to admit how we're contributing to that. Once we've come to terms with ourselves, we can make changes to our own behavior. After that, we can encourage others to do the same, leading by example.
Pretty self explanatory! Consider observing what you see, hear, and feel. The world around us is pretty incredible, if we choose to notice it.
*Disclaimer- driving while looking at your phone is selfish and inconsiderate. Said with love, let's pay attention to what we're doing!
We should treat all people as though they matter, because they do. Acknowledging someone can be as simple as saying "hello" when you pass on a sidewalk, or choosing to smile and/or nod at someone walking down the aisle of a grocery store, or maybe wave at the person who let you merge into their lane while driving. (and you notice because you're not looking at your phone!)
We share this planet with other humans and creatures. Maybe we can't completely stop jerks from littering, but we can pick up a few pieces here and there and lead by example. You never know, that small act of kindness might prevent an animal from being harmed.
*Disclaimer- Yes, you are a jerk if you intentionally discard your trash into the air and onto the ground.
Try holding the door open for a stranger, or saying thank you when someone does it for you. You could buy an extra bottle of water or granola bar when shopping, and then give it to someone in need. Consider donating your time to a local charity!
This is as easy as it sounds, the hard part is changing our habits and behavioral patterns, so that we're comfortable doing it.
